WHAT IS CROSSFIT?
CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning programme that uses a mixture of gymnastics, weightlifting and cardiovascular work to elicit results.
Here at CrossFit Aylesbury we specialise in ‘not specialising’ – we aim to improve an individual’s fitness by working to enhance their ability in each of the 10 components of fitness, these are:
As defined by Greg Glassman, CrossFit is "constantly varied, functional movement performed at high intensity" – but what does this mean?
constantly variedRoutine is the enemy. At CrossFit Aylesbury we aim to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness amongst all our members. To do this we adopt a training regimen that tests us in many different facets from day-to-day, week-to-week. Through this we develop a ‘General Physical Preparedness’ (GPP), that sees us prepared for the unknown and unknowable – from carrying our shopping, to pushing our broken down car to the nearest garage!

functionalQuite simply, these are movements that prepare us for everyday life. Including; squatting, jumping, throwing, running, pushing, pulling and picking things up.

high intensityThis is measured by ‘power output’ or how quickly you are able to get the work done i.e the more work you do, in less time – the higher your power output and, therefore, intensity. Intensity is what we strive for and also what impresses us. It is how much effort you put in, not the quantity of what you do, that will determine your results. Remember, Intensity is King!
